The Financial Stability Council
The Financial Stability Council holds regular meetings of representatives of the Swedish Ministry of Finance, Finansinspektionen (the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority), the Riksbank and the Swedish National Debt Office. The Council discusses risk management and any potential measures required to counteract financial imbalances.
The Financial Stability Council usually convenes twice a year – in December and June. In the event of a financial crisis, meetings are held more frequently to discuss measures that need to be taken. The Council also has a preparatory group that convenes more often between Council meetings.
The Financial Stability Council is not a decision-making body. The Government and the authorities make decisions independently within their own areas of responsibility.
The Minister for Financial Markets chairs the Council meetings
The government minister responsible for financial market issues chairs the Financial Stability Council meetings. Other members are the Director General of Finansinspektionen, the Governor of the Riksbank and the Director General of the Debt Office.
